Understanding Influencer Engagement Rate: What Is It?

What is Influencer Engagement Rate?

Picture this. You’re at the liveliest party in town, and there’s a superstar DJ spinning the decks. The influencer engagement rate is like the volume of their cheering fans.

How does Influencer Engagement Rate work?

Imagine our superstar DJ again. With each track they play, some of the crowd nods along, some cheer, and some fill their social media with the event’s highlights. That’s kind of how the engagement rate works. It’s a measure of how much the influencer’s audience is interacting with their content.

Put simply, it’s calculated by adding up the total likes, comments, and shares, then dividing that by the total follower count, and multiplying the result by 100 to get a percentage.

1. Count the likes, comments, and shares on a post
2. Divide this total by the number of followers
3. Multiply this by 100.

These steps return a percentage which represents the average level of engagement.

Why does Influencer Engagement Rate matter?

Here’s the thing. Just like a DJ with a huge but unengaged crowd, an influencer with a ginormous following but low engagement isn’t very= impactful. Engagement rate helps decide if an influencerโ€™s audience is genuinely interested in their content, and potentially, your brand.

Think of it as a quality over quantity thing. It’s about how deep those connections go. A smaller but engaged audience could be far more valuable to a brand than a large but indifferent one.

Note: Engagement rate isn’t everything. It’s one key metric in a whole DJ booth of things you might want to consider when choosing influencers to collaborate with. But, like the roar of an engaged crowd, itโ€™s a pretty good sign that someone knows how to drop a good beat.
